LABOR will make a muscular bid to push its first wave of workplace laws through the Senate before Easter, arguing that every day of delay will push more workers onto WorkChoices contracts that strip them of pay and conditions. But the Coalition has flagged that the Senate will not be rushed into passing the new laws, and intends to hold a detailed inquiry into the changes. With the parties on a collision course, the workplace bill appears set to become the first stand-off issue between the new Government and the Senate, which keeps its conservative majority until June 30.
