THE Vatican has attacked The Golden Compass as soulless, the US Catholic League wants Christians to boycott the film, saying it pushes atheism at children, while atheists have complained that it doesn't go far enough. This $200 million blockbuster, released in Australia on Boxing Day, is the latest battleground in a decades-old conflict. Is Hollywood anti-Christian, as some American church leaders constantly claim; is it kowtowing to Christians and censoring what might offend them, as some atheists say; or is it simply pro-money?
