TODAY we name lawyers Peter Russo and Stephen Keim SC as 2007 Australians of the Year for their defence of former Gold Coast doctor Mohamed Haneef. In distinguishing themselves as human rights lawyers, focusing on procedural fairness rather than ideology, Mr Russo and Mr Keim personified fine Australian values - the defence of a fair go, concern for the underdog and a healthy scepticism about authority.
