Victoria to act on human rights charter

The prospect of a national Bill of Rights has been rekindled after Victoria announced it would become the second jurisdiction to enact a human rights charter. Victorian Attorney-General Rob Hulls announced that a charter of 20 human rights, based heavily on the ACT's Human Rights Act from 2004, would govern all public authorities from January 1.Governments in Tasmania, Western Australia and the Commonwealth are looking into their own versions.
